Missing Socks & Pens

Poetry by Jade Archives - Missing Socks

I think if nothing else, the Internet makes us realize how we collectively have a lot in common. The other day, as I was pondering this issue and thought perhaps others might have had similar experiences. Sure enough, this poem jumped out and told me, "Yes, others have been where you are."

There must be an invisible society where all these socks and pens go. The way I figure it, in their world pens and socks are basically equivalent to wood and concrete in our world. I'm sure there must be an artist out there that can render us an impression... well, that or we'll get some pictures back from a NASA probe that will confirm this whole thing. Just can't figure how they get the socks to the third moon of Uranus.

In recent years, I've resorted to buying quantity rather than quality in both categories. Costco (wholesale warehouse store) seems to be a great source for this. Basically, anything you buy there comes in crates, 55 gallon drums, or bundles of 100 or more. It drives my wife nuts. You get these killer deals on lifetime supplies of whatever.

So, I now buy these bulk Bic pens and occasionally open a box and distribute them around my house... you know the usual places; near the phones, in the computer room, next to the end table, etc. But it seem that no matter how many I distribute, there are only two in the whole house the next day, which takes at least 7 minutes to find.

The socks aren't much different. I have an entire drawer in my bedroom devoted to socks without mates. Hey, maybe there's an opportunity here. I could start a web page devoted to finding socks mates... hummm. Anyway, most of these are dress socks. I've even made a point of buying no less that three pair of the same type... still, no mates. My wife says she doesn't know where they are. My son, is suspect. Return missionaries do have some strange quirks regarding laundry in general, so I'm keeping an eye on him.

I recently was under the house running some network cabling or so I said. I thought for sure I'd discover the "lost civilization", but no luck. Just cobwebs, dust, and lots of places to bump your head into... don't ask.
